The holiday season is upon us. From now until the end of the year, it is going to feel like non-stop running around, stress and being busy. Within this time period, you may be finding yourself having a difficult time to stay active and healthy. Not only that, but maybe you were just starting to see a breakthrough in your fitness journey and you are worried about what the holiday season may do to it.
Do not fret! The good news is, just because the holidays typically mean the inability to stay healthy and active, doesn’t mean you have to follow that trend. Read more below simple tips and tricks that can help you keep up with your fitness and healthy lifestyle, even during the holidays.
Eat Breakfast
Eating breakfast is already one of the most essential meals of the day. Even more so during the holidays, and here is why. If you know you’re having a big meal later, you may be tempted to skip breakfast to save more room in your stomach for later. However, this could end up hindering you since you are more likely to overeat by the time you holiday dinner comes around.
By eating a balanced breakfast, and even a healthy lunch, you’ll be more likely to manage your proportions while celebrating with a holiday meal.
Find Healthier Alternatives
A great way to get around the unhealthy holiday stigma is to find healthier alternatives to make and share at meal time. For example, try making vegan potato, pepper and olive phyllo cups. Or maybe try avocado-feta dip.
There are plenty of delicious, healthy alternatives to add into your holoday meal that will still make it a great, filling meal.
Plan Your Workouts Ahead Of Time
The best thing you can do for yourself before heading to the gym, or starting your workout, is to have your workout planned out ahead of time.
By not having a workout planned ahead of time, you run the risk of not actually working out. It will seem easier to not workout, since you have no direction of what type of workout you are doing, to just stop and do something else.
Stay Hydrated
As you start to spend more and more time with friends and family, staying hydrated tends to be a thought in the back of your mind. It is important to continue to drink water and stay hydrated throughout the holiday season.
Be sure to drink plenty of water before big meals, throughout the day, and between drinks. Not only will staying hydrated help keep you healthy throughout this season. It can also help you reduce the amount you eat during big meals. By drinking enough water throughout the day, the water can fill you up and make you feel full.
Find A Holiday Fun Run
A great way to stay healthy and active during the holidays is to join a holiday fun run!
Some examples would be The Karen P. Nakon Turkey Dash in Avon, Ohio, or even the Santa Hustle in Sandusky, Ohio.
Joining a holiday fun run is a great way to also include the family, friends, and loved ones to be active together. The runs are typically 5k runs/walks to celebrate the holiday season, and to get outside. Thus, making it an easy way to stay active during the holidays.
